Vesicle

Delivery, perfected.

A small sealed courier that shuttles cargo between compartments and to the cell surface.

A note

The campaign imagery is a fictional luxury concept. Toggle to Scientific X-Ray for the labelled biological illustration.

Structure

A small compartment enclosed by a single phospholipid-bilayer membrane. Vesicles often form by budding from donor membranes and can fuse with particular target membranes.

Function

Transports proteins, lipids and other cargo between compartments, including the ER and Golgi apparatus. Secretory vesicles may fuse with the plasma membrane to release cargo by exocytosis. Endocytic vesicles form when material is taken into the cell by endocytosis.

Where Found

Eukaryotic cells, including plant and animal cells.

Why It Matters

Allows cargo to move to its intended destination while remaining compartmentalised, supporting secretion, membrane renewal and intracellular organisation.

Structure → Function

Its membrane encloses cargo and buds from or fuses with other membranes so substances can move between compartments.
